HANDS FREE MASSAGE

This course taught by Darien Pritchard is designed to help massage practitioners to save their fingers, thumbs and/or wrists (the most common areas of strain for practitioners) while applying firm pressure - You will learn new effective skills that can be integrated into your massage sessions.

This is an accredited, level 3 practitioner course - to attend you must either have a recognised massage qualification or be a registered osteopath or chiropractor etc

Hands Free Massage with Darien Pritchard

This Hands Free Massage workshop covers a range of forearm techniques and introduces some elbow techniques that can substitute for and extend ‘classic’ massage techniques. Unfortunately, these powerful tools have a poor reputation with some people because of their insensitive use, so the course focuses on learning to feel with them as part of learning to use them carefully and skilfully so as to avoid brutalising the client. It also covers:

•    How and where to best use them; 
•    How to moderate the pressure applied; 
•    How to support this with good bodyuse rather than working too hard with your arms and shoulders;  
•    How to blend these techniques smoothly into massage sessions.

The aim is to expand your repertoire and freshen your approach, to help you be more effective when applying pressure while saving your hands, thereby helping you to maintain your career.

Darien has been using his forearms and elbows for over two decades (without which he would have been unable to sustain his career). He was particularly inspired by receiving deep tissue and Hawaiian massage treatments, and adapted these massage ‘tools’ to deliver ‘Swedish Massage-style’ and deep tissue massage techniques. He began calling it Hands-Free Massage when he started teaching it as a separate course over a decade ago.

                           Darien Pritchard

 

Darien Pritchard has been a body-worker for over three decades, including twenty five years of training massage professionals, and two decades of teaching Professional Development courses for qualified massage practitioners. He is the co-author of the student text Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for the Massage Therapist (Corpus Publications, UK, 2001), and wrote the career-maintenance reference book Dynamic Body use for Effective, Strain-Free Massage (Lotus Publications, UK: North Atlantic Books, USA:  2007).

Darien has been a pioneer in focusing on the practitioner’s bodyuse as an integral part of massage training in the UK. He has been using his forearms and elbows for twenty years (without which he would have been unable to sustain his career). He pioneered Hands Free Massage (the skillful, sensitive use of the forearms and elbows to save the practitioner’s hands) by adapting techniques from other traditions to classic western style massage, and was the first to use the term Hands Free for this approach.
