Practical Teaching – will take place on both dates 10am to 4pm.
**please note an Instructor certificate will be issued to everyone who successfully completes the course but the FHT accredited certificate can only be issued to those with a level 3 Massage qualification as this is the industry’s professional association and not relevant to healthcare professionals.
The aim of this course is to enable therapists to instruct their clients in infant massage techniques – also known as baby massage. Successful completion will allow you to teach mums, dads or carers how to safely massage their babies on a one to one or to run small groups by demonstrating the techniques on an Infant Massage doll. This is a great addition to your therapy repertoire as it is both deeply rewarding and far less strain on your body.
We will cover:
- Contraindications
- Benefits of Infant Massage/baby massage
- Massage techniques both basic and advanced
- Specific techniques to aid ailments such as colic
- We will discuss massage and children with disabilities
Home Study between Day 1. & Day 2. There is a break between the first and second date to allow time to complete two case studies – so you will need a couple of willing volunteers who have babies! it is anticipated that the case studies will take between 5-6 hours of your time. In addition you will need to study to prepare for assessment on Day 2.
Important: You will need to bring a baby-sized doll on both days of the course – the Infant Massage Instructor doll (60cm unweighted – 3/4 month size) is available from Touch Needs Alternatively any baby doll roughly 60cm long with moveable arms and legs at the hips and shoulders will be suitable
