Syllabus
Over the past 15 years and following publication of the NICE guidelines for Supportive and Palliative Care (2004), the use of Complementary Therapy is being used more widely in the treatment of patients with cancer
A pre-requisite to the course is a Complementary Therapy qualification in one or all of the following:-
- Reflexology
- Reiki
- Aromatherapy
- Massage
The development of the ‘Fundamentals in Complementary Therapies in Cancer Care’ course has been developed for qualified Complementary Therapists who wish to further their knowledge, enhance their skills and develop their practice in Oncology, to ensure relevant and effective treatments which have been risk assessed and are therefore not contra-indicated and are safe.
On completion of most Complementary Therapy courses, qualified practitioners have insufficient knowledge and skills within the oncology clinical setting. As a result, people with cancer are often denied treatments or treated inappropriately and potentially unsafely in many settings
In the pre-registration educational setting, students are often advised that cancer is a contraindication to many treatment interventions. Students and many therapists, therefore, are unqualified and under skilled in treating cancer patients in any setting
Having spent 14 years in Oncology within the NHS and private sector Angela Green of Angela Green Complementary Therapies and Education has developed knowledge, skills and expertise in the treatment of patients, at all stages of their cancer journey, from diagnosis, though treatment and rehabilitation, to survivorship or end of life

An experienced and Award Winning Clinical Complementary Therapist with 13 years’ experience working within Cancer Care in the largest NHS Cancer Centre in Wales. Angela currently runs her practice from Mind Body Oasis, Holiday Inn, Cardiff North offering a range of therapies including Reflexology, Aromatherapy & Massage, Indian Head Massage, Clinical Reflexology & Aromatherapy for Cancer and Reflexology Lymph Drainage. She is passionate about supporting people using complementary therapies and believes that complementary therapies can have a hugely beneficial effect helping the side effects of treatments and aiding in relaxation and stress relief, sleep disorders, digestive issues, pain management fatigue and many other problems.
Angela is an experienced Educator and Lecturer offering a programme of Clinical CPD courses for Complementary Therapists wanting to update and expand their knowledge and skills.
